SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR THOSE SUFFERING BLOOD DISORDERS RESULTING FROM EXPOSURE TO DRUGS, CHEMICALS AND RADIATION.

It is impossible in the modern world to avoid all the agents documented to cause blood disorders, bone marrow and immune system damage but with knowledge of the causative agents it is possible to avoid many exposures and greatly increase chances of survival and recovery.

To show that the causes in most cases of aplastic anaemia (the most serious of the blood disorders) are well documented, the following are just a few quotes from medical papers & textbooks.

Bowman and Rand. Textbook on Pharmacology. Page 21.40

“Most cases of aplastic anaemia are caused by drugs and chemicals”  “Ionisation radiations have the same effect”. A list of some of the drugs and chemicals are given and the effects may extend to precursor cells in the bone marrow. There is also a warning for sufferers to avoid causative agents.

Group 2.  Patients dying During the Third to Sixth Weeks, or Surviving Severe Clinical Symptoms. “In this group there were not only clinical evidences of the direct damage by ionising radiations such as epilation (hair loss) but also the manifestations of aplastic anaemia consequent on destruction of the bone marrow”. Other noted effects included bacterial infections, purpura (bruising), thrombocytopenia (greatly reduced platelet levels causing haemorrhage) with counts often below 10,000 cmm. vitamin deficiencies, capillary fragility, nausea and vomiting, hair loss, increasing malaise, un-remittent fever, ulcerative lesions of skin, mouth, pharynx. Vitamin deficiencies were noted, which was confirmed later in my own investigations in laboratory tests, showing not only exposures to known causative agents but knock-on effects with mineral and vitamin deficiencies.

Mosby’s Medical and Nursing Dictionary 1994. “Aplastic anaemia, a deficiency of all the formed elements in the blood.  It  can be caused by cancer of the bone marrow but more commonly, by destruction of the bone marrow by exposure to toxic chemicals, ionising radiation, or some antibiotics or other medications. An idiopathic (of unknown origin) form of the disease rarely occurs”. My own investigations into many cases show this is accurate and the medical profession never investigate possible causes then state “cause unknown”.

Drug Induced Blood Disorders by Prof. G.C. de Gruchy. Page 39

“ Drugs are the cause of at least one half of all cases of aplastic anaemia”.

There are many other similar references on the known causes in medical textbooks and papers written over many years. Some doctors and medical researchers say they can find the cause of the condition in only some cases. The percentage various from 15% to 75%.  The medical textbook Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine notes that the percentage of cases where a cause is found varies with the vigour with which a cause is sought. My thoughts exactly - do not seek and you will not find. My own aplastic anaemia was not investigated to find a cause but my hospital records note that I was exposed to a number of chemicals at my place of work. Of the dozens of cases I investigated I find only one or two where the cause was admitted like a cancer case with over-dosing of radiation or chemotherapy and in those who did know the cause none survived.

Laboratory tests have been used for around 50 years which have proved a cause and effect with chemicals documented to cause aplastic anaemia, showing higher levels in those suffering aplastic anaemia against the lower levels or no trace of the same agents in control patients. Compensation has been paid in a few cases. A gas chromatography/mass spectrometry chart showing huge levels of lindane in one aplastic anaemia victim due to timber treatment in a house against that of a control, proving a cause and effect,  is included in another part of this website

My own investigations also confirm Prof. G.C. de Gruchy’s findings that about 50% of cases result from prescribed drug exposures. The other 50% had had exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation.

Without going into great detail, there are countless reports over many years of the bribes from the drug industry to doctors to over- prescribe and not report side effects and I have 100’s such reports in my files. A large survey reported on in The Pharmaceutical Journal in 1996 found that of many 1000’s of patients admitted to hospital, in only 6.3% of cases of those admitted because of an adverse drug reaction, had the reaction been reported by their doctor on the yellow cards proved.

There are references in medical papers on the increased susceptibility of patients with blood disorders caused by drugs, chemicals and radiation to further exposures, Prof. de Gruchy in his book “Drug Induced Blood Disorders” mentioned above is just one example. I found that of the dozens of cases I investigated where a drug was the cause of their condition it was sometimes withdrawn without telling the patient the drug had caused their possibly fatal condition. In every case I investigated there had been a history of substantial exposure to a known causative agent. No warnings were given to patients who might now be highly sensitised to avoid all other agents which might seriously worsen their condition and I found patients still being exposed to known causative agents.

SURVIVAL.

AVOID INFECTIONS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.  Avoid particularly people with infections of the upper respiratory tract as drugs necessary to treat these can be toxic to the bone marrow.  Unfortunately sufferers are susceptible to being overwhelmed by infections because of reduced neutrophils so drugs can be essential when infections occur. Washing with a mild antibacterial soap can help. E.G   Cidal.

DRUGS.   From questions I had asked in the U.K. Parliament on 11th Jan., 1989 it was reported in replies from Government experts that nearly 200 prescribed drugs were known to be associated with causing blood disorders including aplastic anaemia. Unless a drug is essential try to avoid them as much as possible, even aspirin is documented to cause blood disorders, others include those for arthritis, anti-depressants, diuretics, some antibiotics, anti-malarial and countless others. Check in a drug book like the British National Formulary, the book doctors prescribe from in the U.K. I came across patients with aplastic anaemia being prescribed antidepressants documented to cause the condition.

PESTICIDES. I have a letter from the Ministry of Agriculture dated 17 January, 1989 admitting that ALL pesticides are danger to the environment and human health. Ones like lindane and D.D.T., which caused many cases of aplastic anaemia, leukaemia and other cancers have, after many years campaigning by those who knew the effects, now been banned. Others will be banned in the future so avoid all pesticides as much as possible. Eat organic food, when you can, as the pesticides contaminate fruit, vegetables and meat. The restaurants at Westminster have been buying organic taxpayer- subsidised food for politicians for many years. Also avoid tap water if you can as the chlorine, and fluoride if added, are toxic and combine with other chemicals which are documented to caused blood disorders. The restaurants at Westminster supply M.P’s with taxpayer- subsidised bottled spring water.

BENZENE AND RELATED CHEMICALS. (Related chemicals are toluene, xylene, phenols etc) Avoid as much as possible, as these are the chemicals most documented to cause blood disorders. Benzene appears in pesticides, drugs, petroleum products, solvents, glues, paints and thinners, cleaning fluids, aniline dyes, phenols, disinfectants and many other products in daily use in house and garden as well as 100’s of prescribed drugs.

Following the above closely as I was able my bone marrow slowly recovered over several years from the severe aplastic anaemia I was diagnosed as suffering from in April, 1986. This   was greatly complicated by hepatitis C contracted from a blood transfusion in Sept., 1986.  Interesting also is that the medical profession do not give hepatitis C sufferers the information they need to stop the virus changing to fatal liver disease by avoiding alcohol, drugs, toxic chemicals etc that are toxic to the liver. Another guide on what to avoid if a drug or chemical is toxic to the liver, avoid it as it will also be toxic to the bone marrow.
